Math History Presentation Reflection

I thought the presentation went pretty well! It was within the time limit, yet it didn’t feel too rushed. It was fun researching for this topic because I’ve done similar research for the golden ratio before, so this project made me go back and update my understanding and cater the information to an audience. In terms of findings, it’s quite impressive of what Euclid has accomplished during his time with Elements. I am astounded how much people knew about mathematics from so long ago, but it is even more interesting to see how misinterpreted the golden ratio has become over the years. It went from an interesting mathematical ratio to a pop culture reference, so if I had the time, it would’ve been fun to go through the history of how this ratio became so misrepresented.

In terms of the presentation itself, I was pretty pleased with the pacing and content. The slides were also very readable and filled with visual aid to not overwhelm the listeners, and I’m glad everybody enjoyed the “Golden Ratio: Yay or Nay” activity as well. I am looking forward to incorporating this into my students’ learning as well!
